Drive full error followd by Message not saved error when saving to network drive

Details:

Server:
Win2k SP3, Raid 5 array for network drives (50 GB total, 36.5 GB free), no quotas, authenticated users full control (permissions used to be more strict, relaxed trying to find problem)

Clients:
WinXP Pro SP1, Laptop users with 60GB hard drives, mapped to shared network folder and setup for offline use (3 GB of size reserved for offline use)

Clients (3 of them) get a "Disk Full" error followed by "Message not saved" error when attempting to save directly to the network drive (random only).

This is the Division VP, the Division COO, and the Exec Assistant to the VP getting the errors so they are "defective end users"....

They can copy straight to the drive using drag and drop....reboots also fix the problem for a short time before the problem shows back up.

I have searched around on the internet and found many instances of people having this error but no resolution was given to those that posted.

Full system scan on both clients and servers are run everynight for virus, all machines have been clean for weeks.

The shared folder they are trying to save to is only 1GB in size and the error is not shared between the computers, ie. computer1 gets the error...computer 2 and 3 and can save directly to the drive.

What application are the users trying to save from?  If not an app then what are they trying to write directly to the drive a text file??  word doc??

various office apps.  They open the file from the network drive, work on it, then try to save back.

The users are hard set in thier ways and refuse to drag it to the local computer and drag it back....
What kind of antivirus software do you have?  If it is norton can you disable scanning network drives in realtime protection?  I have heard of antivirus software corrupting Office temporary files.  Let me know and I will help further.

I am running Symantecs Corporate Edition 8, however network drive scanning is turned off and locked on all clients by default.
How about on the server??
The server the files are on is running CE 8.0 server version and doing full system scans every night on the array holding the files (hopefully all temporary files are closed by the users at that time).

Realtime protection is enabled on the server, but not for the network drives.
THis will be a hard problem to solve because it is random...  THe only advice I can give at this time is to wait until the problem is occurring and go to the affected machine and view the event logs and go to the server and view the event logs and try to save and post the event IDs if they are logged.

tell me about it....the problem is that are no event log entires generated when this happens.  I found an instance on one computer that had an "old" offline file folder setting from the users house (laptop users)....I cleared all offline files, turned offline files off, rebooted, turned offline files back on and resync'd his work drives.....I will see if it shows up on his machine again.....The other two users are out of the office for the next two weeks so I can't get into thier machines (laptops as well) to see if they stale offline file folder settings that might be causing this.
This was caused by Veritas Open File Backup...the option was removed and the problem went away...still working with veritas
