windows update malfunctioning
Until a few days ago I could use windows update. Now, every time that I try using it I get a message that Windows update has been updated and another window opens asking me if I want to install and run "http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/CAB/x86/unicode/iuctl.CAB?37862.6327083333"
Now, normally I would say yes, as I have done every time windows update changed. The thing is in the same window, underneath the previous message it says that "The publisher cannnot be determined due to problems below: Authenticode signature not found" Obviously this is strange since it is a microsoft thing, this is why I hesitate installing it. Of course without it windows update is not functioning.
Any advice?

I followed the link in your post and downloaded the cab. After virus checking it I looked at the signatures of the files and they are from Microsoft and are certified by Verisign. I have no idea why you are getting that message though.

thanx for all the answers
I have tried the propsed solutions but nothing worked.
I tried downloading the CAB file and followed the steps needed to install its contents, with some strange results:
The CAB file (which is very small, about 58 kb) contains 4 files. when i tried to extract them all together, I got a message that "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation". This is ofcourse not the case since I have some Gb's free. I managed to extract each one seperately but when I tried to instal the .inf file I got the message "installation failed"
I tried Bigfix that war1 suggests, but it does not download all updates, maybe only critical ones.

Hi guys, forget my previous post, I managed to fix the problem
It seems that the solution was to download and instal the cab file but for some reason it was only partially downloaded and was, naturally, corrupt. I used getright to download it and the problem was fixed. So I am gonna split points between dew_associates and war1 because they both pointed me to links that gave the solution.
Thanks everyone

Glad I could help!
START | RUN | Regedit
Locate, and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAR
In the Value pane, right-click ProgramFilesDir, and then click Modify.
In the Edit String window, make sure that the Value data box contains C:\Program Files.
If you have specified a different drive and path, make sure that the path you want includes a specific folder and does not end with a backward slash.
Exit Registry Editor, and then restart your computer.
